Courtney Lawes insists England have forged an identity based on self-sacrifice as the personalities of the World Cup heavyweights begin to emerge.
England have crushed Argentina, Japan and Chile to claim a quarter-final place as Pool D winners with a match to spare and their procession through the group phase will be completed against Samoa on Saturday.
Expectation is rising, even allowing for the fact they have been gifted the easiest route into the knockout phase, but the likes of Ireland, South Africa and New Zealand have been making greater waves.
After the All Blacks’ 14-try rout of Italy on Friday, head coach Ian Foster made a pointed reference to the grinding nature of Ireland’s seismic victory over the Springboks.
“If you look at the South Africa-Ireland game, it was a different game of rugby,” Foster said.
“The ball was in play for 27 minutes throughout the whole game. It was a very stop-start game, very physical, very combative.
“You saw a different spectacle from us and at some point the world has got to decide which game it would rather watch.”
Lawes sees room for all playing styles and is satisfied with the traits developed by Steve Borthwick’s side.
“Our way is the England way. Doing it our way is doing it for each other,” the Northampton back row said.
“I like that it’s now really obvious what is every team’s DNA and what they’re trying to do. All the top teams have got really different genetics as a team, if you will – a team strategy.
“It’ll be interesting when they play each other how that is going to play off. I think that’s really good for us as players to see and be a part of.
“We’re a really strong defensive team. That’s our backbone. We’ve conceded one try in three games. We’re an aerial, kicking team and are very good at getting the ball back.
“We’re looking to build an attack off that, and hopefully by the time we get later on in the tournament that is where we want to be, and we will show a bit of a different side to us.
“Especially at the 2019 World Cup and this time, in terms of a team of players, we are so much more selfless.
“We want to play, we want to go out there and put our bodies on the line for each other and that is what really makes a difference when it hits the fan and you are under the cosh.
“You have got to want to get into it for each other or you get found out pretty quickly.
“We know what works, we want everybody to buy in, we do this for each other, not for ourselves.
“We hit a ruck and forego the glory so we can get the ball and someone else can score.
“Those are the things we pride ourselves on as a team and what we want to carry on into the future as well.”
England keep T20 World Cup hopes alive with crushing win over Oman
England got their much-needed win in stunning fashion as they raced to an eight-wicket victory over Oman inside four overs.
After a washout stopped their first game against Scotland, England lost to Australia and knew that a defeat on Thursday would see them knocked out of the World Cup.
Oman just could not get a foothold with only Shoaib Khan able to reach double figures with 11 as England put in a stellar bowling performance.
Adil Rashid was the standout with his 4-11, but Jofra Archer (3-12) and Mark Wood (3-12) helped to cap the performance as Oman were all out for 47 after 13.2 overs.
With a target of 48, England came out to bat on a mission, with Phil Salt hitting two sixes on the first two balls before being caught.
In the end, it would only take them 19 balls to hit their target, with captain Jos Buttler getting an impressive 24 off eight balls, though it was Jonny Bairstow who got the important four to take them to 50-2.

Oman's tally of just 47 is the fourth-lowest total a team has managed in a T20 World Cup match, while it also proved to be England's best bowling performance in the competition.
With 101 balls remaining following England's successful chase, they set a new World Cup record.
Kane: Bayern experience aided Euro 2024 preparation
Harry Kane believes the experience he gained playing for Bayern Munich last season has prepared him for Euro 2024 in Germany.
Kane made the move to Bayern from Tottenham in August last year, becoming the most expensive Bundesliga signing in history.
He enjoyed an impressive maiden season in the German top-flight, scoring 44 goals in 45 matches across all competitions.
Kane acknowledged how his time at Bayern has improved his game and given him valuable experience going into the tournament.
"It's been an incredible experience," Kane told UEFA.com.
"I think playing for a club like Bayern Munich can only improve you and only push you to another level because you're under huge pressure to be successful in every game and I think the standard of players, and the quality of coaches, you know, it's just a really high level, and I’ve really enjoyed that.
"And I just think playing, for me personally, it was time to play in different stadiums against different teams, and I've really enjoyed that experience.
"Some of the atmospheres here have been some of the best I've ever played in. So, I'm loving that part and I expect the games in the Euros to be the same as well."
Kane is set to become the first player to captain England at four major tournaments when he leads them out against Serbia on Sunday.
As the Three Lions' all-time top-scorer with 63 goals, Kane is set to be one of their key men once more, but he believes the team have earned the right to be labelled as one of the favourites.
"Being England captain and leading the boys out is probably the highest privilege I can have as a player, and I'll never take that for granted.
"That feeling is truly one of a kind. It's an honour to do it for a fourth time. We've had a semi-final, a final and a quarter-final, so I'm hoping we go to the very end and go on and win.
"I think this squad is one of the best, if not the best, we've had, going on form and the domestic seasons a lot of us have had.
"I hope that the guys can lean on me and ask me questions, and if I can help them get through anything, then great. But we have such a good togetherness, we're always talking or having dinner together and there's always conversations being had, so that helps us."
After their opening fixture, England will play Denmark and Slovenia in their other group games.
Messi rules out Olympics participation with Argentina
Lionel Messi has ruled out the possibility of participating in the Paris Olympics, conceding "it would be too much to play two straight tournaments".
Messi is gearing up for Argentina's Copa America title defence, which begins against Canada on June 20, while they will also face Chile and Peru in Group A.
The final takes place on July 14, with the Olympic tournament beginning in Paris 10 days later.
With three overage players allowed per team in the primarily under-23 event, leading to speculation that Messi could feature for La Albiceleste.
However, the 36-year-old, who was a gold medallist in Beijing 16 years ago, revealed he would not be partcipating following a discussion with Argentina under-23s coach - and former team-mate - Javier Mascherano.
"I talked to Mascherano and the truth is we both understood the situation," Messi told ESPN.
"It's hard [to think about the Olympics right now] because we're in Copa America. It would be two, three straight months of not being with the club, and more than anything, I'm not at an age to be in everything.
"I have to choose carefully, and it would be too much to play two straight tournaments. I've been very lucky to play in the Olympics, and win it together with [Mascherano].
"It was a wonderful experience on a football level. Olympics, under-20s, memories I'll never forget."
